Hays Education are currently working on behalf of a Birmingham secondary school based in the city centre to recruit for a Head of English. This is a full time teaching role up to KS4 only. The role is to start from September 2018 and is being offered on a permanent basis. A temporary to permanent arrangement can be negotiated.

Your new school
A mainstream, non-selective comprehensive school who prides themselves on providing a great education to students from all backgrounds. This school is centred on the values of collaboration, opportunity, respect and excellence and their ethos is focused on “students first” in everything. They follow a broad and balanced curriculum, which is designed to inspire and motivate their students to achieve. They now also have an established Sixth Form.

Students at this school are supported to grow into academic, articulate, respectful and confident individuals. They are equipped with the skills to succeed in a competitive and expanding employment environment. Students are involved in all aspects of school life, especially leadership roles. They encourage students to take risks and build the resilience they need to undertake new challenges. This school is a real part of the community in the city centre and relationships are key to their success. Importantly, every member of the team matters. Relationships between staff, students, parents and their local community are all vital to the culture of their school. It is these relationships that make the school a safe and secure environment for students to learn, both in and beyond the classroom.

Their students get tremendous opportunities to be involved in residential activities and field trips. The school work closely with local businesses so that their students gain an insight into the working world and the expectations that this brings. They are particularly proud of the partnerships they have with two local organisations with a national and global profile: their links with Birmingham Repertory Theatre and Birmingham City Football Club provide an extra dimension to the experience of their students.

Your new role
This role is offered as a full time, permanent teaching post, however a temporary to permanent agreement can be negotiated. You will need to be experienced teaching up to KS4 and have had previously responsibilities as either a Head of Department or Deputy Head of Department.
