Hays Education are currently working with a care provider who delivers a schooling service to pupils with Special educational needs. This Birmingham based provision is responsible for delivering a tailored curriculum to individual unable to access education. The school provides support to pupils across KS2 – KS4 who have Social Emotional Behavioural Difficulties / moderate learning difficulties.
Your new role
This Teaching job is initially a 1:1 Teaching job and will see you working with a KS3 pupil who is working at KS2. This job requires an initial assessment with the pupil and then to devise a bespoke curriculum that will have a social practical orientation. The young person is verbal although they demonstrate a selective mutism. This individual has autism and will often display obsessive compulsive behavioural traits. Consequently you should be an engaging passionate individual with the ability to engage disaffected individuals with special educational needs. Key aspects of this job include working cooperatively with the support staff and ensuring the pupil makes progress. This is likely to be a part time role, working 4 days per week.
What you'll need to succeed
To be suitable for this role you should be an experienced Teacher with QTS, be primary trained (or have recent significant Primary School Teaching experience, have a minimum of 6 months experience of working with children or young people with emotional behavioural and social difficulties (EBSD/ BESD/ EBD) and/ or Autism. You must have a minimum of 40 days experience of working in schools, centres or provisions that support EBSD/ BESD/ EBD which can be referenced. Applicants with QTS or Science oriented degree will have a significant advantage. You will be passionate about helping young people achieve the best of their potential, be thick skinned and have a good sense of humour A team teach qualification or training in crisis prevention (PROACT SKIP/ MAPA/ TEACHH) is advantageous.
