Science Teacher

Hays Education are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and ambitious teacher of Science for an oversubscribed and expanding school situated in a pleasant suburb of North Somerset for January 2009.

The department has excellent facilities including 13 laboratories and a networked computer suite. Every laboratory has its own projector and network point and every teacher has his or her own laptop. Examination results have been strong and improving.

At the school they aim to be an inclusive learning community. They expect their students to do their best and achieve to their highest standard. The school strives for its students to enjoy school and become capable, lifelong learners, able to adapt and respond positively to challenges in a world of continuous change.

All staff are encouraged to take part in co-curricular activities and the considerable variety offered provides ample scope for individuals.  Assistance with games coaching of girls or boys teams or help with the CCF, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, Community Service Activities or Music or Drama would be particularly welcome.

Skills, Knowledge and Aptitude:

 - Ability in the classroom, including subject knowledge and teaching methodology.  (All short-listed candidates will be expected to teach a lesson, observed by a senior member of staff.);

  • A degree from a recognised British university or college, preferably at least a second class degree.  The degree should be either a general education degree (BEd) or, a specific subject degree;
  • IT skills and a willingness to use IT for both teaching and administration
  • Enthusiasm, energy and commitment to children of all abilities


    Personal Attributes:
  • Ability in the classroom, including subject knowledge and teaching methodology. 
  • Flexibility and willingness to be a full member of the school community
  • Suitability for working with children and young people, including the ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries;
  • Good Organisation and interpersonal skills
