Protocol Education are looking for Braille Support officers based in the Newham.
You are probably asking what does a Braille Support Officer do? You help children at early ages who are blind or have visual impairment needs. Therefore Braille Support Officers help them with the school work in lessons, help them read and communicate with the rest of the world.
The ideal candidate would have a basic understanding and knowledge of braille and be willing to learn new techniques in order for them to best describe to children. If you have experience working with children with Special education needs, or experience in a mainstream setting as a teaching assistant, and are looking for a new role then this is an exciting opportunity for you.

Main responsibilities include:
? To provide in-class support for children with vision impairment in mainstream settings in the London Borough f Newham (primary and secondary).
? To adapt learning materials into braille/tactile formats for lessons.
? To liaise with class teachers regarding access to the curriculum for children with vision impairment in mainstream settings, under the direction of the Braille Support Officer Team Lead and Qualified Teacher of the Vision Impaired.
? To support children during school trips and in extracurricular activates.

The successful candidate will work as part of a highly skilled and dynamic team of professionals to support the education of children (aged 0 16 years old) with vision impairment. We are seeking someone motivated and keen to develop a comprehensive set of specialist skills, including braille. Applicants must have recent experience working with children with SEN in mainstream settings. Experience working with children with vision impairment is desirable.

Good Braille competency to Level (Grade) 1 is not essential but a bonus if you have it
Braille competency to Grade 2 represents an advantage prerequisite for candidates.
