Part Time Assistant Site Supervisor required for a school in Newham on a permanent basis.

Part Time Assistant Site Supervisor

Contract Type: Permanent
Working Hours: 27.5 hours per week, Part-time, All Year Round (initial hours of work likely to be 6.30am -12.00pm)
Salary: NJC18 – Pro rata to £21,544, ie £16,457 per annum for a 27.5 hour working week (0.7639 fte)

Overall Purpose of Job

To ensure the cleanliness, orderliness, safety, and security of grounds and buildings, to undertake inspection and first line maintenance (planned and reactive) of installations and premises.

• To liaise with the senior site supervisor on the rolling programme of redecoration/refurbishment
• Lock and unlock the school premises at appointed times;
• To ensure the school is kept clean and tidy and is conducive to learning e.g. litter picking, collection and disposal of refuse, reporting any incidents of fly tipping to the council.
• To ensure that halls and other meeting rooms are set out as required for meetings, assemblies and other events and cleared away afterwards
• To carryout portering and furniture moving service as required in order that school activities can proceed and that the entrance of the school is always clear and welcoming
• To ensure safe storage and control of any potentially harmful materials and chemicals used in the academy.
• To ensure that orders received into school are delivered to the appropriate area / person as necessary
• To collect and dispose of all waste, refuse and surplus materials
• Where practicable, and within area of competence, repair any damage, deterioration, or malfunctions to school premises or equipment, or install new equipment etc;
• Report any damage, deterioration, or malfunctions that the post holder cannot deal with to the senior site supervisor/FM. All accidents to be reported to the FM;
• Carry out any cleaning that cannot wait until the cleaners come on shift;
• In the event of an emergency, assisting and carry out the instructions of the Head Teacher, FM, or other member of the Senior Management Team;
• To be aware of all out of hour’s activities at the school and arrange for the opening, closing, heating and availability of equipment as necessary for the smooth operation of school functions.
• On occasions, driving the school van to pick up, or deliver goods;
• Deputise for the Senior Site Supervisor in his absence;

• To be responsible for the security of the premises, liaising with Security/Police and other emergency services in this respect as necessary
• To check, at least monthly, all perimeter fences, security devices, fire appliances, CCTV systems and alarms
• To ensure that the fire call points, intruder alarms and emergency lighting are tested weekly and results recorded
• To monitor and report and to the senior site supervisor on security matters
• To act as a keyholder for the school on call-outs
• Driving the school minibus as required;

• To ensure that all working practices comply with current legislation
• To provide safe access to the school in the event of snow, ice or flooding
• To have knowledge of the location of all water and gas stop cocks and mains electricity power breakers etc
• To carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced
• To carry out regular site inspections
• To keep records of inspection findings

• To place orders in line with the academies procedures
• To order repairs and maintenance items in liaison with the senior site supervisor/FM
• To liaise with the senior site supervisor with a list of repairs / improvements
• To maintain all tools and equipment in good repair and arrange for the training of members of the site team on their safe use
• To ensure mechanical equipment is inspected prior to each use
