I have a clear recollection, as a young adult who was planning a teaching career, of observing my teachers closely and critically analysing the teacher-student relationship.
The ability to put oneself ‘into the shoes’ of another person is a critical skill for fostering trust and understanding in a teaching environment.
Key concepts in my teaching approach are: 'constructive student-centred', 'learning experience', 'contribute to a better society', 'increase internal communication with staff and students', 'provide opportunities for students to develop soft skills/competencies along with the Hard skills and improve employability'. These objectives are accomplished through focussed teaching strategies which challenge students’ conceptual understanding and engagement and encourages them to take more responsibility for their own learning.
Commands such as 'read' and 'listen' are increasingly replaced by the verb 'experience'.
