To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to you in regards to a teaching position for Fall 2017. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Cross-Categorical Special Education in May 2015 and am certified to teach primary through secondary. Immediately following my undergraduate degree, I went on to obtain my Masters degree in Special Education with an emphasis in autism.
Currently, I am student teaching at the primary (11-13) and secondary level in a private school for individuals with high functioning autism. I am teaching functional mathematics and reading to a vocational preparation program, in addition to two math classes and an environmental science class. I also have experience teaching in a self-contained autism classroom at the primary level. Within this setting, I created and monitored 13 students’ behavioral, social, and educational goals, as well as planned their daily academic lessons.
Prior to my teaching career, I was an Applied Behavior Analysis Implementer for an agency which worked with individuals on the autism spectrum. My experiences have been filled with many opportunities to practice behavior management strategies, teach social skills, implement differentiated instruction, and apply my skills in American Sign Language and other assistive technology in order to help individuals better communicate and learn.
Lastly, another experience of mine consisted of working with a young girl on the autism Spectrum at church. As her buddy during Sunday school, I helped integrate her into the daily lesson and accommodate activities so that she was able to participate with her same-aged peers.
I would like to speak with you to further discuss my CV and possible employment opportunities. Thank you so much for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
