Dear Sir/Madam,

I recently completed my MA degree in ‘Contemporary History’ from the University of Birmingham, and had completed my BA degree in ‘History with English Literature’ from Newman University College in 2012. I wish to apply for a Graduate Teaching Assistant position, to gain experience across departments. This career will lead me to my ambition and aim of becoming a secondary school history teacher, so that I may lead many students’ lives in the right direction and to contribute positively to society. I believe I do have the relevant skills needed in becoming a successful Graduate Teaching Assistant. Please find enclosed my CV.

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, I will be able to accomplish tasks such as assisting teachers in planning lessons, help marking work, have one-to-one sessions with pupils, and hopefully discussing progress with parents. Becoming Graduate Teaching Assistant will also involve encouraging students to become successful learners, confident individuals, and responsible citizens as well as helping them develop their personal, learning and thinking skills.

Becoming a part of any school will allow me to re-enforce their visions and values by encouraging and motivating students to become imaginative, creative, and challenging, whilst maintaining respect and care for one another. I would feel proud to be part of a supportive environment where staff members aid pupils in achieving their potential best by nurturing and inspiring them for a brighter future.

I have had valuable experiences during my work placements at Q3 Academy, The Phoenix Collegiate, George Salter Collegiate Academy, Alexandra High School, and Devonshire Infant School, which incorporated various tasks to be completed on my own initiative and cooperatively as a group, including planning lessons and organising events. I am bilingual (English/Punjabi) which is an advantage when interacting with different cultured parents. I am comfortable using presentation software, spreadsheets and writing correspondence. Further, I am also well experienced at keeping a professional and calm attitude, whilst handling issues that can arise in any work environment.

Currently teaching as a Cover Supervisor has given me the ability to handle challenging behaviour and demonstrate assertiveness at necessary occasions. It has given me an advantage to analyse the teaching methods that inspire learning, as well as gaining knowledge about my self-development. This is one of the personal skills I would like to enhance on my work placement. In addition, aiding my old-aged Grandmother has endowed me a strong sense of responsibility and sensitivity necessary in every rightful person, as well as developing my oral communication skills.

What is not covered in my CV is my passion for creativity. I enjoy designing and decorating, because it is interesting and widens my thinking horizons. I personally enjoy painting, whether it be sceneries or self-portraits. There is more to me than being creative, and hard work, however, and I would love the opportunity to discuss my skills and experience in relation to the role.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this application and I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Yours sincerely,
